Ric Flatt

I’ve lived in Sheet since 1993 when both my wife and I moved to work in Guildford. Our two daughters both grew up here, our younger daughter attended Sheet Primary School and our elder daughter and family lives locally. Since retiring in 2012, I have been involved in various activities locally. I have volunteered as a gardener with the National Trust for the last ten years, I am a Trustee and volunteer driver with the Voluntary Care Group charity, transporting patients from hospital and local surgeries, and am treasurer of the Petersfield and District Fundraising Branch of the RNLI. I have also been active in Sheet, helping to establish and then run Sheet Film Club since 2014, responsible for its membership and finances, and helping with “spin-off” events like the Film Festivals, street parties and most recently the café. Sheet is a very attractive village in which to live, and its separate village identity, open spaces and active community are very special. I hope we can preserve all that is good whilst adapting to change in the future.

Gail Martin

Responsibilities: Village Hall, Roads.

I have spent my life in education and research, both in Britain and abroad. I have lived in Sheet since 1999. After retiring I worked in the Criminal Justice System concentrating on the welfare of children. Elected to the newly formed Sheet Parish Council in 2012, I have focussed on issues concerning roads and traffic and, as Vice Chair, I have supported the Chairman to maintain the smooth running of the Council in times of need. More generally, as a councillor I am particularly concerned to see that the village is a place where all residents, young and old feel happy and secure.

Brian Bird

Responsibilities: Recreation Ground.

I have lived in Village Street, Sheet since 1985. I was married in Sheet Church, have two children who have both been christened in Sheet Church and who both attended Sheet Primary School. I run a local bespoke woodworking business and I like to get things done. I believe very strongly in the community and have great respect for the history of the village and the people, past and present, that have made Sheet such a special place to live.

Robin Forest

Responsibilities: Sheet Recreation Ground and the Allotments

Robin was elected to Sheet Parish Council at its inception in 2012.

A retired General Dental Practitioner, Robin and his family have lived in the same house in Pulens Lane, Sheet since 1983. His great love of the outdoors is put to good use in keeping an eye on the Allotments and the Recreation Ground, as well as helping to look after the trees in the parish.

He has a keen awareness that although the identity of the village itself is very strong, at least a third of the parish electorate lives south of the old London Road, and this shouldn’t be lost sight of.

James Plant

I have lived in the village for 27 years. Always taking a keen interest in village events and for many years I was involved in the work done in setting up these events, be it building boats or shepherding ducks down the river. I was the Chairman of the Friends of Sheet School whilst my children were at the school and involved with the school firework displays for several years having taken over from John Hartley. I have sometimes strayed over the border to run quizzes in the Harrow and set off fireworks at Steep.

Unfortunately, work pressures have meant that I had less time to actively give to the events in the village for the last few years, only attending and not being involved. Work has changed. I am now running an accountancy practice in the village and, once again, have Ime to get properly involved.

I believe that if you want the quality of village life and all the benefits that this brings, you have to be involved.

Liz Hartley

I have had the privilege of living and bringing up my family in Sheet for over 30 years. I have worked as a teacher full time for 12 years and on a part time bases since in many areas of physical education, this has included working with Sheet primary school. While my 3 children attended Sheet Primary School, I was a member and finally chair of FOSS, helping with the various fund-raising events for the school.

My other committee/organisational experience has come from working with PRFC, county and regional girls rugby teams.

I would like to see Sheet keep it’s positive, friendly, caring nature while being flexible when looking to the future.

Craig Stevens

Responsibilities: Council website and speed cameras.

I have lived in Sheet since 2010, with my wife and our two children and I am an IT specialist. As well as playing and coaching hockey, I have several years of being on men’s and junior committees at Havant and with the Mercian League. I was Chairman of the Kingscourt PTA and a member of the Churchers College PTA. I believe in a sense of community/society, where we support our wonderful village and local community. My main interests are music and attending Steve’s Gladiator bootcamp at the Rugby Club.

Jenny Hollington

I have lived in the neighbouring parish of Steep since 2006 and became Clerk to Steep Parish Council in 2008, a role I very much enjoyed. In 2012 I gained the CiLCA qualification (Certificate in Local Council Administration) and was asked whether I would help out as Interim Clerk for Sheet Shadow Council whilst Sheet Parish Council was first being formed. Initially I thought of this as a short term role but came to very much enjoy working with the new Parish Councillors and residents of Sheet and decided to apply for the position.

The role is part-time – currently 13 hours a week – but I can be contacted anytime Monday to Friday during office hours.
